Children and Literacy

By  Dwi Nur Asiyah Age 1-5 years is the golden age of children. When children are at this age, parents should maximize their child's development by giving positive inputs and applying learning methods that are right for them. This is very important, because when parents wrongly provide treatment when they are in the golden age, it will be difficult to change when the child is growing up. One of the things that can be instilled in children during this golden age is the habit of reading. In this digital age, many children, even from a very early age, have become addicted to gadgets. Usually parents introduce gadgets to children on the grounds the child will be calm and not fussy when they play games / watch videos on the gadget. But unfortunately, this can have a negative impact on children both physically and mentally. It would be very unfortunate also when in the golden age but children spend too much time playing with gadgets. Therefore, it would be better if parents introduce

Indonesian teacher welfare

By  Dwi Nur Asiyah In the past, when we were little, maybe the teacher became one of the professions we wanted to live. But as we grow older, many of us begin to have other goals, such as becoming doctors, architects, entrepreneurs and so on. There are those who have found a passion that suits them, but there are also those who see the reality of the teacher whose life is far from prosperous so they throw away the desire to become a teacher. We have read and heard a lot of sad stories of honorary teachers in Indonesia. Starting from a small salary, the struggle to teach in remote places, working part time to get extra money and so forth. It is really sad to know the reality of what happened. One of the stories that is quite touching is the story of an honorary teacher named Panji Setiaji. The video that shows him being awarded a shoe and motorcycle from a volunteer community, viral on social media. Panji is always seen wearing torn shoes when teaching at the school where he works.

Education system in Indonesia and Finland

By: Eviyana Rismawati Finland is one of the countries recognized by the world to have the best education system.  Their system is different from the basic principles of education in Indonesia. This country has never given homework to its students. Indonesia was also rumored to want to adopt this system.  But it might require a process because the difference is still quite far. The educational portrait between Indonesia and Finland is very different. This is due to many factors that influence it, one of which is Indonesia is a developing country that is looking for forms of the education system while Finland is a developed country that is no longer focused on the search for forms of the education system but on its development.  If likened, Indonesia is still building the foundation of the education system so that it lags far behind Finland. In Indonesia, objectives of learning are formulated based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. 1945 Constitution in paragra

Teaching English through songs

By: Eviyana Rismawati        First of all, in this article I would like to share my experience in learning English through song. I started to learn English from the 3rd grade in elementary school. At that time there was no English subject in the curriculum so I was taking an English course at school. I was excited to be in thursday because once a week I met Mrs. Lis, an English tutor. She taught me the basic of vocabularies such as greeting and grammar rules. Her personality who was always smiling to everyone made me enjoy the material. I really loved the method taught. I was like a student in the kindergarten. Playing, singing and clapping. When I got new song from Mrs. Lis, I always sang it at home. Now, as a student of English education I can say that the method and strategies used by Mr. Lis are appropriate for children. The song which Mrs. Lis taught even still in my mind until now. I believe that song is effective for teaching children the second language. In ESL cl

By: Siti Muyassaroh There are many genres of text in English. They are descriptive, report, narrative, recount, procedure, exposition, and so on. Those text are divided according to the different function and structure. However, in this article, we are only going to talk about exposition text. Further, exposition text is also divided into three texts. They are analytical exposition text, hortatory exposition text, and discussion text. Those texts mainly aim to share writer’s opinion, idea, point of view, and arguments about a particular topic.
